Thank you for your participation in the Bridge Run 2025
Many of the more than 40,000 participants had a great running experience crossing the Øresund Bridge from Denmark to Sweden during Bridge Run 2025. However, the organisers from Sparta Athletics & Running regret the long waiting time and queues that some participants experienced from the finish line and on their way back to Denmark.
40,234 runners completed the Bridge Run 2025 on Sunday, running a half-marathon course across a country border by running from Denmark, down the tunnel to Peberholmen, and on to Sweden via the Øresund Bridge. As a result, 99.75 per cent of the starting runners completed the sold-out race.
However, for some participants, the rare cross-border running experience was marred by long waiting times and queues for transport back to Denmark.
The organisers from the Danish side, Sparta Athletics & Running, regrets this:
“We would like to be the first to apologise to the participants who have had a bad experience getting to the finish line or back to Denmark from the race. We’re very sorry for that, and of course, it affects the joy of seeing the reactions from the many runners who had a great experience with the race,” says Event Manager Lars Nissen.
The repatriation of up to 15,000 participants by bus and train was challenged by cancelled train departures and three broken-down cars that aggravated the level of congestion on the Øresund Bridge.
“In collaboration with the authorities and our co-organisers, we had planned the race with numerous reservations that transporting over 25,000 participants from Sweden to Denmark and transporting up to 15,000 participants back to Denmark would be a difficult logistical challenge under the given conditions. We had also communicated to the participants that the extraordinary race would require extra patience from them. But for some runners, the waiting time was far too long, and we can only apologise for that,” says Lars Nissen.
For the first time since 2010, the Øresund Bridge was partially closed to make way for the runners at the 2025 Bridge Run.
