It is recommended to arrive to Copenhagen in good time if you’re running the Bridge Run, starting in Tårnby on the 15th of June 2025. The organisers encourage the nearly 25,000 Swedish participants to travel to Denmark before race day if they want an easier access to the start area and save energy for the running experience.
It’s a historical event highlighting Øresundsbrons 25-year celebration when 40,000 runners take off on a half marathon, starting in Tårnby on the Danish side and finishing in Sibbarp in Sweden. However, before it’s time for the runners to tie their running shoes and run through the tunnel and over the bridge, it’s necessary to plan their arrival to the starting line.
60% of the participants who purchased a ticket are from Sweden. This also means that around 25,000 Swedes are expected to cross the Øresund Bridge and be in their starting group for Bridge Run 2025 before setting off from 10:00 on Sunday 15 June.
Organisers Malmö Allmänna Idrottsförening (MAI) and Sparta Atletik & Løb are arranging transport and cooperating with the traffic authorities so that participants can get to the start in Denmark and back home after the race.
At the same time a clear message is conveyed to the many Swedish participants:
“It will require some very early departures from Sweden on race day, and a big portion of cooperation from the participants, if all 25000 runners and spectators are crossing the bridge on the same morning – on top of the regular Sunday travellers. Runners can ensure themselves a calmer start to the experience if they travel to Denmark in the days leading up to the race instead of waiting until Sunday morning,’ says Mats Svensson, chariman for MAI.
The organisers are estimating that the first departures will be required to leave Malmö from 6am if all the participants wait until the race day to cross the bridge. Tårnby and Copenhagen have lots to offer for the participants and their friends & families. The organisers hope as many runners as possible will take the chance to benefit from these offers and come to Copenhagen early.
“The area around the start in Tårnby has many hotels, from which the participants have an easy access to the start by foot or with the metro. In this way they maximise the possibility to prepare for the race and enjoy the unique experience of running from Denmark to Sweden. At the same time, we invite as many as possible to make a stop in Denmarks capital city while picking up their bib in Copenhagen,” says Dorte Vibjerg, administrative manager, Sparta Atletik & Løb
Many International Runners will Participate i the Swedish-Danish Party
Even though the Bridge Run marks a celebration of the physical connection between Sweden and Denmark in The Oresund Region, there are many runners from other countries that wanted to take part of the festivities.
There are almost 100 nationalities represented among the participants. Among these the following countries have the largest number of participants: Germany (1271 runners), Great Britain (1254) and the Netherlands (476 runners). Other countries that will join in the celebrations, despite a considerable travel distance, are 200 from the USA, 56 Australians and 33 Mexicans.
